EcoTree provides Nature-based Solutions

We provide Nature Based Solutions by planting trees, maintaining forests and increasing biodiversity. Through these actions, we are helping to fight against climate

The principle of Nature Based Solutions is defined by a strict framework which is quite simple to understand: it is about participating actively in the fight against climate change proposing dynamic solutions that are more ambitious than just the conservation of biodiversity. This is precisely what we do at EcoTree.

What definition of Nature-based solutions do we use?

What definition of Nature-based solutions do we use?

The concept of Nature-Based Solutions(NBS) was initiated and developed at the 2009 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties in Copenhagen.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) subsequently included the development and promotion of this concept in its global programme in 2013. During the COP21, in 2015, the IUCN French Committee mobilised during a seminar entitled " Nature-based Solutions to Climate Change ".

In 2016, at the World Conservation Congress, Nature-based Solutions were counted as efficient in the fight against climate change under the heading of sustainable development actions. They gained international recognition largely because they were included in the Paris Agreement. But what are these solutions really about?

What are Nature-based Solutions?

Nature-based Solutions (NBS) initially focused on forests when they were first defined. This is because we are aware of the crucial role played by trees and the forest ecosystem in absorbing CO2 and preventing the risks associated with climate change. However, it has now been established that NBSs are not limited to forests, as other ecosystems also sustainably capture CO2, one of the main greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. To be considered a genuine Nature-based Solution, an action must meet two criteria:
1Contribute directly to an identified societal challenge other than simply conserving biodiversity.
2Be based on ecosystems and provide benefits for biodiversity.
The United Nations emphasises that NBS are economically viable and sustainable, surpassing many technological alternatives or the construction of complex infrastructures. These solutions bring direct benefits to people, such as restored landscapes, cleaner air, landslide prevention, and opportunities for outdoor cultural and social activities, and offer a more substantial return on investment. Nature is constantly bringing its benefits to us, and the investments required are generally relatively inexpensive.

We offer Nature-based Solutions

We offer Nature-based Solutions

Through the actions we have implemented over several years, including sustainably managing forests, rehabilitating endangered ecosystems, restoring forest ponds, wetlands, and bogs, recreating hedgerows, and installing beehives in forests, we are not only contributing to the restoration of ecosystems but also providing tangible and immediate benefits to nature, quantifiable over the long term.
Nature-Based Solutions to combat climate change are at the core of our efforts and concerns. Thanks to partner companies' support, we can tackle the climate challenges of our time on our scale, and we hope to inspire other economic actors to join us in addressing one of the major concerns of our era.
Businesses have a role to play in this challenge, and they must understand that the ecosystem services of nature, especially forests, are a parameter that must be addressed.
Because in a degraded environment, we cannot build anything good, and neglecting our nurturing land is a costly long-term dynamic, more expensive than supporting it and aiding in its recovery.

Companies can make a different with Nature-based solutions

Climate change is one of the major concerns of our time, which must mobilise our energy and know-how. Since human activities are partly responsible for this major upheaval, due to the industrialisation of our societies, it is logical that those who are at the origin of the problems that concern us closely should also be at the forefront of their resolution. In this way, companies can take action to protect and develop nature, to help absorb carbon and avoid more natural disasters. Nature-based solutions should help to avoid natural hazards such as floods, droughts and storms, as well as geographical and migratory disruptions. This applies to global food security as well as to rising sea levels and advancing deserts. As companies, we can act, because our reaction and action capacities can be mobilised more quickly than those of States. It is up to us to assume our responsibilities and to be at the forefront of the fight against climate change.
