#### Emission of carbon credits

Get high-quality carbon credits. Seriously managed projects give rise to a multitude of co-benefits, including carbon capture, which we are able to value in your extra-financial reports or on the market. As the carbon credits we generate come directly from your assets, they benefit from exceptional traceability.

Enrich your carbon actions by integrating biodiversity for a complete, long-term environmental impact. To ensure the sustainability of the projects we carry out, we take into account the challenges of preserving and enhancing biodiversity. Concrete recommendations are made, actions are then taken and monitoring over time gives rise to detailed reports that are shared with you. These reports help to better assess your impact and reinforce the legitimacy of your sustainability strategy.

#### Meeting compensation and reporting objectives

We worked with a French property developer to implement reforestation projects covering 22 hectares. These projects generated more than 4,000 carbon credits, which were included in the company's CSR report, enabling it to meet the growing expectations of its stakeholders in terms of environmental impact while contributing to the carbon neutrality of its projects.

#### A precise assessment of natural assets to guide its CSR strategy

An international tourism company decided to carry out a detailed inventory of its natural assets, to assess their condition and value. This inventory formed a solid basis on which to build its environmental strategy in a way that was effective and met its customers' expectations in terms of sustainability.

#### Optimising your forestry assets

A major banking group decided to assess its **forestry assets**, covering several thousand hectares, by integrating the carbon and biodiversity dimensions. Thanks to this collaboration, we have become a trusted partner, regularly called upon to help various group entities optimise their **forestry assets** and their contribution to the group's CSR objectives.

#### Maximising the value of your forestry assets

A private landowner was considering selling his forest and approached us to obtain a full estimate of the value of his **forestry assets**, from the value of the land and the standing timber, to the projected income from silviculture, as well as the benefits in terms of carbon, biodiversity and recreation. Having realised the potential of his woodland, he finally decided to conserve it and capitalise on it by undertaking improvement work, thereby optimising the asset itself and its environmental impact.

### Frequently asked questions about direct forest investment

#### What is forestry investment, and why is it relevant for companies?

**Forestry investment** involves acquiring and actively managing forest land as a long-term asset. For companies, it serves a dual purpose: it is a tangible, appreciating asset class that has historically returned between 2% and 6% annually in France, and it generates **measurable environmental outcomes** that can be reported under frameworks including **CSRD, ESRS E4, and the EU Taxonomy** for Sustainable Finance.

Unlike carbon offsetting, which compensates for emissions elsewhere, **forest ownership** creates a direct, traceable link between your company and a natural asset on your balance sheet. This distinction matters increasingly to auditors, investors, and regulators assessing the credibility of your sustainability strategy.

#### Who is this offer for, and where do you operate?

This offer is designed for **companies looking to strengthen their environmental commitments** through direct ownership of natural assets. It is relevant whether you are a sustainability manager building the nature-related component of your CSRD reporting, a CFO seeking to diversify your asset portfolio with a resilient long-term investment, or an existing forest owner wishing to unlock the full environmental and financial value of your land.

EcoTree operates across Europe, with projects in France, Denmark, Germany, and beyond. Tax incentives and regulatory frameworks vary by country, and we work with local partners and tax specialists to ensure your investment is structured appropriately for your jurisdiction. If you are based outside France, please mention your country when you get in touch so we can direct your enquiry to the right team.

#### How does the process work, and can we use your services selectively?

The process begins with a scoping conversation in which we seek to understand your environmental objectives, reporting obligations, investment parameters, and any existing forestry assets. From there, we develop a detailed project specification covering forest sourcing criteria, management approach, carbon quantification methodology, and biodiversity monitoring framework.

Once the specification is agreed, **our team works with local partners to identify, assess, and acquire suitable forests**. We manage all associated administrative procedures on your behalf, including acquisition formalities, afforestation permits, soil and climate studies, and the drafting of the sustainable management document. You receive regular updates on actions taken and their measured impact throughout the project lifecycle.

Our services can also be used on a standalone basis. Some clients engage us solely for the sustainable management and monitoring of forests they already own; others commission a carbon quantification exercise or biodiversity baseline assessment as a starting point for their nature strategy. Simply indicate which services you require when you [get in touch](https://ecotree.green/en/companies/contact) and we will scope the engagement accordingly.

#### How does forest ownership support our CSRD and ESRS E4 reporting?

Owning and managing a forest with EcoTree generates a set of auditable environmental data points that feed directly into your non-financial reporting. This includes carbon sequestration volumes (relevant to Scope 3 removals under the GHG Protocol), biodiversity KPIs measured against baseline assessments, and ecosystem services documentation.

Under **ESRS E4**, companies are required to assess and disclose their impacts and dependencies on biodiversity and ecosystems. A managed forest with structured monitoring provides concrete, site-level data to support this disclosure, going beyond estimates or proxy indicators.

**Forest ownership** can also contribute to several EU Taxonomy environmental objectives, particularly climate change mitigation and the protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems. We can provide the project-level documentation needed to support a Taxonomy alignment assessment. Our reporting is designed to be usable by your sustainability team and, where relevant, your external auditor or ESG rating provider.

#### What carbon credits do you generate, and how are they verified?

The carbon credits generated through EcoTree's forestry projects come directly from the forests we manage on your behalf, giving them exceptional traceability. Because they originate from your own assets rather than a third-party project, they are easier to substantiate in your reporting and carry a lower greenwashing risk than credits purchased on the voluntary market.

Our [carbon quantification methodology](https://img.ecotree.green/documents/en_ecotree_carbon_methodology_15052023.pdf) is documented and publicly available. Credits are calculated based on rigorous biomass measurements and modelling conducted by our foresters, and the methodology has been independently reviewed. We can provide the full technical documentation to support your internal validation process or external assurance.

#### What biodiversity KPIs do you provide?

At the outset of each project, we establish a biodiversity baseline for your forest. Over time, we track indicators including species richness, habitat quality, deadwood volumes, and the presence of indicator species. These are compiled into structured reports shared with you regularly.

Our approach is consistent with the principles of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and supports the site-level disclosure requirements under **ESRS E4**. If your company uses a specific biodiversity measurement framework or has particular indicators required by your sector or reporting cycle, we can discuss how to align our monitoring accordingly.

#### What are the risks, and how does EcoTree manage them?

Like any long-term investment, forestry carries risks, primarily linked to natural events such as storms, fires, drought, and pest outbreaks. These are real risks that we do not understate.

EcoTree manages exposure through several approaches: diversification of tree species and age classes to reduce vulnerability to any single threat; careful site selection informed by climate modelling and soil analysis; and close-to-nature silvicultural practices that build ecosystem resilience over time. We also advise on insurance options for your forestry assets.

For companies conducting a climate risk assessment under CSRD, we can provide site-level data on physical climate risks relevant to your forest assets, supporting both your risk disclosure and your adaptation planning.

#### Why work with EcoTree?

EcoTree has over 10 years of field experience in sustainable forestry and biodiversity projects across Europe. We manage forests using an irregular high forest approach, a method that promotes structural diversity, long-term carbon sequestration, and habitat richness, rather than optimising for short-term timber yield.

We are a B-Corp certified company and hold PEFC certification, providing independent verification of our forest management standards. Our team includes foresters, ecologists, carbon specialists, and reporting experts, meaning we can support your project from land acquisition through to annual ESG disclosure.

Our client base includes international corporations, banking groups, property developers, and tourism companies. [Case studies are available on this page](https://ecotree.green/en/companies/client-success-stories).
