EcoTree’s model: Understanding the return on investment (ROI) from your trees

Investing in sustainable forestry is a unique way to grow your wealth while contributing to the planet’s well-being. At EcoTree, we make it simple to invest in trees that not only sequester carbon but also provide a financial return over time. But how does this work? In this article, we’ll explain how your trees grow in value, what factors affect your return on investment, and how you can profit from your investment in the future.

EcoTree offers an investment model that allows you to purchase trees and watch them grow in value over time. But unlike traditional investments, trees grow slowly, and their value increases steadily as they mature.

Here's how it works:

Value growth over time:

Each tree species grows at its own pace, with the value increasing at an average annual rate of 2%, as confirmed by the French Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF). While growth may be slow at first, your investment in these trees steadily appreciates as they mature. The final return on investment is realised when your tree is felled and sold for timber.

The harvest year varies depending on the species and its growth characteristics, as each tree matures at a different rate. We provide an estimated cutting year at the time of purchase, but the exact timing will depend on when the tree reaches optimal maturity. This is because trees need to be at their best before they are harvested to ensure the highest quality wood and a better return for you.

Our dedicated team of forest experts carefully monitors the growth of each tree and determines the ideal time for cutting. This ensures that we harvest the trees at their peak, preserving their ecological and economic value while maximising your return on investment.

Forest management for long-term sustainability:

At EcoTree, we practice ‘close-to-nature’ forestry management. We avoid clear-cutting and instead use methods that enhance both the economic value of the forest and its ecological health. This approach ensures that the trees are managed sustainably, allowing for natural regeneration and maintaining forest diversity. Thinning and selective cutting open the forest canopy without damaging the ground, promoting natural regeneration while securing timber for future use.

Timber for the local industry:

When it’s time to harvest your trees, the wood is sold to local sawmills that align with EcoTree’s environmental standards. The timber is used in construction, furniture making, and other industries, ensuring a long-term, sustainable economic impact. By adopting a sustainable approach to forestry, your investment in EcoTree not only grows in value but also supports the local economy and the environment.

Your return on investment:

You will receive the profits from your trees once they are harvested and sold. The estimated range of "harvesting horizon" years is clearly stated when you purchase your tree.

When the trees are harvested, you have the option to either receive your profits via bank transfer or reinvest them in new trees to continue growing your EcoTree forest portfolio.

By investing in trees with EcoTree, you’re not just planting trees; you’re making a long-term, sustainable investment that grows with time. Your trees store CO2, support biodiversity, and contribute to the timber industry, all while providing you with a return on your investment.
