The forestry manager has decided not to carry out any clearing until the end of autumn, so that the grasses can protect the young tree saplings. He considers the young trees to be equally threatened by water shortage and by the intense heat of the summer UV rays. So while the grasses compete with them for water reserves, they offer in return a welcome shade. A few oaks have already been damaged by the heat, but the vast majority are doing well. The trees are healthy and a vibrant green, a sign of good health despite the many browsing attacks from deer. Conifers are thriving, and wild cherry and sycamore maple are doing really well. After a tough summer with two heat waves, we topped up the forest with 10,000 new trees in January 2026, and they're settling in nicely. We're keeping a close eye on deer activity in Plot 2 and will be adding "protective sleeves" on the most exposed trees this winter. Elsewhere, the vegetation is growing fast (a good sign!), and our team will step in where needed to give the young trees room to breathe. A site visit is planned for late summer to see how everything is progressing.
