Ah… The feeling of walking through the forest: the peace, the silence, the beautiful colours, the smells of the plants - oh wait. What’s that? A cigarette butt? And can you see the glare of a tin can over there? Let’s face it: no one likes to find litter in nature, yet somehow it still gets there. But you can help! September the 19th is World Cleanup Day: a day where everyone joins forces to clean up the earth. What you can do:
You probably noticed by the sweat running down your spine: Europe is struggling with the heat. Nothing new under the sun (get it?), it happens every year. But you never really get used to the panting and puffing, and it’s definitely not great for your health. Did you know the best air con is all natural?
We are delighted to announce that our methodology for calculating carbon capture and storage (sequestration) in our forests has been verified by the highly esteemed Bureau Veritas, one of the world’s largest certification organisations for environmental standards. EcoTree is one of the first sustainable forestry companies in the world to receive this verification. This is not only a great honour, but also means we can now use our verified expertise to help other forestry organisations quantify their...
We’d like to start with a bit of mind blowing... Forests can provide and flourish at the same time. This is at the heart of what we’re doing at EcoTree. Shifting people’s perspective from seeing forests as either something to protect (good) or cut down (bad). Because humans have a bad habit of messing everything up when it comes to taking what we need from the environment to survive. In the future we envisage, it’s not about survival. It’s about flourishing. And we’re passionate about growing evidence that it’s actually good for our planet to get everyone involved in sustainable timber production.
Forests have always been a place we go to top up on splendour and wonder. They’re just downright good for the soul. But not all of us are as lucky as our EcoTree foresters right now. They’ve been out in the forest every day during this unprecedented time of social distancing and travel restrictions, making sure everyone’s trees continue to flourish.
Despite Coronavirus putting many countries on lockdown, our foresters have been able to continue their work. Because we keep our operations local, our supply chains are not disrupted and we continue to source and transport seedlings and small trees grown in nearby nurseries to our future forests.
Some people wonder whether it's better to focus on old-growth trees in a forest or to cultivate young plants. Others wonder about the opportunities to invest in an existing forest or in agricultural land to be reforested. Which system absorbs the most carbon and, in turn, will do the planet the most good?
Why oppose tree species when we know that they contribute to the economic function of the forest, which is essential for its survival? Faced with the many questions that arise from this subject, EcoTree has decided to clarify.
New fundraising, the beginning of the international expansion, a strengthened and growing team with a new structure… Summed up, a new chapter of the EcoTree adventure has commenced. And much has happened since the beginning three years ago.
