The Ploërdut forest - from tired to tree-tastic!

We took over the Ploërdut forest in 2019 and has since then been working hard to create a real forest. For trees, for animals, for you.

The Ploërdut forest - from tired to tree-tastic!

The first time we visited the Ploërdut forest in 2019, we just knew we had to own it! Back then, the land was a clearcut, non-replanted forest, and it was left without care of any kind… Pretty sad actually... But we saw potential and began our work straight away!

As you probably know, planning and creating a thriving forest is not simple. Thankfully, our foresters were really enthusiastic about the land and had lots of ideas on how to create the perfect balance between different tree species. They knew exactly how to make the land a real forest.

One of the most important missions for our foresters was the preservation and reconstruction of wetlands in the forest. Wetlands work as biological super systems and are vital for thriving biodiversity. First of all, they produce great volumes of food and are actually as rich as rainforests and coral reefs in terms of the number of species. Second of all, wetlands have the potential to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide via photosynthesis. Moreover, the wetlands work great as protection against both floods and fires. They are simply magical!

Faaaaaaaaast forward to today. Now, a coniferous forest is now beginning to show the tip of its needles, composed of an irregularly shaped forest plot with a mixture of Sitka spruce and cedar, and a pre-existing Douglas fir plot with accompanying species.

It’s completely life-affirming to be a part of creating so much life as our forests are. Our work with biodiversity is an ongoing process, but we can already see a change in the number of animals who visit and live in the forest.
You’ve learned a lot about our Ploërdut forest today, but remember that you can actually own part of it. Find a tree from Plöerdut in our treeShop here!
