### Common Walnut
**A symbol of wisdom, prosperity**, and the generations that follow one another, the Walnut is the tree of old farmsteads and family gardens, one that asks for patience but, once established, gives generously for centuries. It is **an ideal gift to mark settling into a new home**, the birth of a child, or to honour someone you deeply admire.
Its nuts, fallen in autumn, are a vital food resource for squirrels, jays, and dormice, which help disperse its seeds over great distances. Its large canopy also provides a dense, valued cover for nesting birds, and as it ages, its hollow wood becomes precious habitat for bats and cavity-dwelling species.
The Common Walnut (*Juglans regia L.*) is a deciduous tree native to the Balkans and Central Asia, naturalised in Europe since antiquity for its nuts and its exceptionally beautiful and durable wood. Its aromatic leaves produce juglone, a natural compound that influences surrounding vegetation, a unique chemical character that speaks to its strong botanical personality.

### About Ajoux Forest
Located between the villages of Mauves and Ajoux, on the slopes of the Serre du Pied de Boeuf in the Monts d'Ardèche, the forest borders the commune of Ajoux, with which it shares a name.
The Ajoux forest is located at an altitude of between 545 and 730 m, and the hills of the mountains is made up of of ridges and valleys irrigated by permanent or temporary streams. The area is facing North on steep slope of between 35° and 15°. The climate is continental and the forest rises on a granitic geological formation.
