About Langonnet forest

About Langonnet forest

The Langonnet forest is a former farmland of 29 hectares, located in Morhiban in Brittany. It is composed of multiple wooded plots of various trees species (sessile oak, cedar, Douglas fir, Scots pine, cherrywood, checker trees, red cedar…), a meadow, a wild orchard and a wetland. The Langonnet river also runs through the forest for a kilometre.
We have restored and enhanced the Bodero menhir, which stands on the edge of the woods. Home to great biodiversity, the forest is also home to beehives and a honey hedge.

EcoTree’s forestry actions

EcoTree’s forestry actions

A plantation project was brought to DREAL, following the purchase of the forest in 2021. As this is a former farmland, a cereal crop was grown to reduce competition from grasses on the future afforestation projects planned for 2022. Indeed, planting cereal makes it possible to have, after harvest, a bare soil, thus helping avoid saplings being suffocated by the grasses.
As a result, at the end of 2022, work began on the soil and all the plantating was completed by the end of February 2023. Oak, Douglas fir, cedar and pine seedlings were planted before being protected with sheathing and Trico, a sheep fat-based repellent.
In the coming years, further planting will be carried out, and weeding will take place around the planted seedlings. The protection of saplings with Trico will also be renewed.

EcoTree’s actions for biodiversity

To preserve the forest's biodiversity, many projects are underway. Our teams have begun installing a wild orchard and a flower meadow by carrying out work on the soil to allow the planting of fruit trees and a honey hedge. The maintenance of a senescence plot is also on the agenda. Additionally, 20 beehives have been installed, which are being looked after by a partner beekeeper. A forest pond will be restored.
In the coming years, ornithological and odonatological inventories will be carried out, as well a file to obtain the Wildlife Territory label.
