The châtelain forest is located south in the Mayenne department in an area with little wood, which has made this forest popular among locals
The Chatelain forest was planted in the 90s and mainly consists of sessile oak, but also pedunculate oak and ash. The old embankments with trees along the fields have been preserved. Thinning and partitioning are to be carried out regularly to allow sunlight and favourable conditions for natural regeneration. The ground vegetation mostly consists of herbs and brambles.
