At EcoTree, we recently hosted an exclusive Q&A session with our forester, Gauthier and our biodiversity expert, Louise. This session gave our clients with a Forest Subscription a unique opportunity to ask their questions about forestry, biodiversity, and our sustainable forest management practices. Below, we share some highlights from the conversation.
CO2 sequestration and the Paulownia Tree
One of the most popular topics was raised by Guénolé, a Forest Subscriber from France, who asked about the paulownia tree, known for its impressive CO2 sequestration capabilities. Gauthier addressed why this fast-growing tree, often praised for its environmental benefits, is not currently part of EcoTree’s planting strategy. His detailed response revealed the careful considerations we make when selecting species for our forests.
Why postpone tree plantings?
Christoffer from Denmark asked an important question about why some tree plantings had been delayed. Louise and Gauthier explained that planting is closely linked to ecological conditions - shifts in weather patterns, biodiversity concerns, and soil health all influence the timing of these decisions.
Selecting tree species
Kevin's question about how we choose which tree species to plant sparked an interesting discussion. Gauthier explained the selection process, which takes into account climate resilience, ecological impact, and the long-term health of the forest. He also mentioned why fruit trees, while desirable, are not always the best fit for large-scale forestry projects. With a Forest Subscription, you will get access to unique tree species on the TreeShop.

Managing ivy on trees
Brigitte posed a practical question about ivy growing on large trees, should it be removed? Louise reassured us that, in most cases, ivy is harmless to trees, though there are instances where it may need to be managed for the tree’s health. It was a great reminder of the nuances of forest management.
Why do we harvest trees?
Frederik raised an often-asked question: Why does EcoTree harvest trees? Gauthier thoughtfully explained the role of sustainable harvesting in maintaining forest health and promoting biodiversity. Harvesting, done responsibly, is an essential part of forest regeneration and long-term ecological balance.
These are just a few of the questions our forester Gauthier and biodiversity expert Louise answered in the interview. With a Forest Subscription, you gain access to full Q&A sessions like this and receive regular updates on the state of your forest, exclusive content, and insights from our experts.
