Prissac forest

Located in the Brenne Regional Nature Park in central France, the young Prissac forest is significant for enhancing biodiversity and reconnecting ecosystems. Covering a cadastral area of 60 hectares, 39 hectares of which is wooded, this project is part of a drive to restore and increase local biodiversity.
Our afforestation project is a transformative endeavour, converting former farmland with limited biodiversity into a sustainable natural area. This initiative aims to strike a balance between conservation and the sustainable use of forest resources. The new forest, integrated into a vast wooded area, will serve as a biodiversity corridor for local species. By adopting the principles of continuous-canopy mixed forestry, we are proactively addressing the challenges of climate disruption and promoting ecosystem resilience.

In autumn 2024, we will plant 67,234 trees on 39 ha of previous farmland to create a forest. On the least favourable sites that are very sandy soil and potentially dry in summer we will plant 70% Maritime Pine accompanied by 20% Sessile Oak and 10% Sycamore Maple. On the most favourable site however, we will plant 70% sessile oak, 20% maritime pine and 10% sycamore maple (10%) . This initiative is particularly significant given that the Prissac forest is part of the Brenne Regional Nature Park and thus forms part of the regional ecological area.

We will preserve 10 ha of meadows for biodiversity purposes and existing hedges, which we will extend to 1,033 metres. We've identified some forest ponds on the site. We plan to conduct a diagnostic study to understand them better (slopes of ponds, fauna & flora inventories) and better preserve these environments. The machines will not go near them during the work, either during installation or maintenance. In this way, we hope to enhance the diversity of the local animal and plant life.
