About Orø-Margrete forest

About Orø-Margrete forest

The Orø-Margrete forest is our third forest in Denmark. We took over this former agricultural area on the heart-shaped island in the Isefjord near Holbaek in 2023. Here we will establish a sustainably managed forest that benefits the local area and preserves and improves the local biodiversity and its ecosystems.

EcoTree’s forestry actions

EcoTree’s forestry actions

The area is former agriculture, which we want to transform into a sustainable unevenaged forest. We plan to plant the first trees in 2025, as we have to prepare the land and ensure the best conditions for the young trees. We will be planting Oak, Beech, Hornbeam, Cherry and Larch in order to make the forest diverse and resilient.

EcoTree’s actions for biodiversity

EcoTree’s actions for biodiversity

In the spring of 2023, we started an agroforestry project on the neighbouring land in collaboration with Oroe Fællesjord, an association-owned forestry that benefits the community, sustainability, biodiversity, drinking water and local producers on Oroe. We have already carried out the first baseline measurements on the potential for biodiversity and prepared a number of measures which will help preserve flora and fauna and improve the conditions for biodiversity. This agroforestry project will benefit the local ecosystem alongside the biodiversity actions we plan to initiate in our own forest.
