A plantation project was brought to DREAL, following the purchase of the forest in 2021. As this is a former farmland, a cereal crop was grown to reduce competition from grasses on the future afforestation projects planned for 2022. Indeed, planting cereal makes it possible to have, after harvest, a bare soil, thus helping avoid saplings being suffocated by the grasses.
As a result, at the end of 2022, work began on the soil and all the plantating was completed by the end of February 2023. Oak, Douglas fir, cedar and pine seedlings were planted before being protected with sheathing and Trico
, a sheep fat-based repellent.
In the coming years, further planting will be carried out, and weeding will take place around the planted seedlings. The protection of saplings with Trico will also be renewed.
