This forest was originally made up of agricultural meadows that were left to be abandoned, as the terrain was not suitable for farming due to its sloping and isolated nature. With lack of maintenance, the meadows were overtaken by wasteland and oaks, willows and birches grew haphazardly amidst brambles and ferns on certain plots. This forest plot changed hands multiple times, with different owners holding parcels of the property in joint ownership, until the last owners agreed and decided to sell the land to EcoTree in order to create areas for sustainable tree plantations. After this clearing, shredding and ground work took place in 2022 before plantating various species, including red cedar, [Sitka spruce](/en/species/1) and [red oaks](/en/species/8). The planting was monitored and the American red oak plants were protected. In the coming years, there will be further clearance work and application of Trico, a sheep fat-based animal repellent, to protect the saplings.
