### Silver Birch
The Silver Birch (Betula pendula) or white birch is a tree species native to our region. It is now found all over Russia and as far away as Mongolia. Thanks to the lightness of its wind-blown seeds, it is one of the first trees to grow on bare land. It appreciates siliceous soils and is very resistant to spray and air pollution. Birch is grown in parks as a decorative tree. Its wood is used by bakers to bake bread and is highly appreciated by carpenters for its white, soft and silky appearance, which is easy to work with.

\- Height: 20 to 30 meters
\- Foliage: small triangular leaves, double-serrated and light green in color
\- Trunk: straight and long
\- Bark: soft, resistant and waterproof
\- Colour: white and bright, due to betulin, its main component

### About Peyrat-de-Bellac Forest
Located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine in central France, the Peyrat-de-Bellac forest stands out for its rich biodiversity. This land, which we acquired in May 2023, is home to a unique ecosystem of preserved meadows and ancient hedgerows. These wet meadows are managed sustainably, encouraging their specific flora. As crucial structural elements, the hedgerows are carefully maintained to support the local fauna. The aim is to afforest only a part of the property, thus preserving an open environment. Today, the forest is dominated by [sessile oaks](/en/species/4). The Peyrat-de-Bellac forest has another unique feature: it is home to the plant 'Galium debile', slender marsh-bedstraw, an endangered species in the Limousin region. This rare plant thrives on the banks of streams on unwooded plots of land.
