Maritume pine has several names: "Pinus pinaster," "Pin des Landes," "Pin de Bordeaux," "Pin à trochets" or "Pin du Maine." It is part of the Pinaceae family. Originally from the central and western Mediterranean, it can support itself in poor soils but needs light, heat and some atmospheric humidity while withstanding summer drought. It has the record length for its needles and has bright, light brown cones: 20 cm for each!
