### Douglas fir
A symbol of height, ambition, and surpassing limits, the Douglas Fir is the tree of those who think big and dare to aim higher. It is **an inspiring gift to mark a graduation, a new role, or any project that is taking off fast**.
Its dense branches offer prime shelter for many nesting bird species, and its leaf litter enriches the forest floor with organic matter, feeding a rich and varied soil fauna. In mixed forests, it plays an essential structural role for the entire ecosystem.
The Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is a conifer native to the Pacific coast of North America, where it can exceed 100 metres in its natural habitat. Introduced to Europe in the 19th century, it is today one of the most widely cultivated species in forestry for the quality and durability of its timber.

### About Ploërdut 1 forest
Located in Brittany, our Ploërdut forest is made up of four individual plots that we acquired gradually over a period of time.
On Ploërdut 1 a small area of [Douglas firs](/en/species/2) were preserved. However, the previous owner cleared the rest of the area. Thus, we are developing a new uneven-aged forest comprising multiple tree species such as Douglas fir, [Red Oak](/en/species/8), [Chestnut](/en/species/5), and [Scots pine](/en/species/23).
