Norway Maple

The Norway Maple is a deciduous tree. They are green in spring and turn yellow and sometimes red in autumn. This hardy tree, very widespread in France, is precious for its rapid growth. Its wood is used in carpentry, for floors, and its ashes are used to make potash. Its Latin name Acer means sharp, hence the French word 'acéré' (pointed). The tree owes its name to its wood, which was used in antiquity to make spears.

- Growth: rapid
- Height: 10 to 45 meters
- Foliage: deciduous leaves, always opposite each other, with webbed veins composed of 3 to 9 veins, the main one located in the center
- Trunk: longitudinal white, grey or cinnabar red stripes
- Bark: first smooth and yellowish grey, then reddish grey and darker and darker with age as it peels off and flakes.
- Color: crimson, scarlet red, orange, yellow, or silver according to the season

This species makes the forest stronger and more resilient, which improves the health of the entire plot by promoting biodiversity. Its expected profitability is linked to the logging of the stand where it grows.

About Orø-Margrete forest

The Orø-Margrete forest is our third forest in Denmark. We took over this former agricultural area on the heart-shaped island in the Isefjord near Holbaek in 2023. Here we will establish a sustainably managed forest that benefits the local area and preserves and improves the local biodiversity and its ecosystems.
