The Bornmüller Fir (abies bornmulleriana) is considered a subspecies of the Nordmann Fir. The Bornmüller Fir differs from the Nordmann Fir in that its twigs are reddish brown, whereas the Nordmann Fir twigs are a shiny light brown. The buds of the Bornmüller fir are resinous. Its needles are tightly packed and broom-like and point rigidly upwards, not forming rows. They are stiff but not prickly, pointed at the tip, shiny dark green and have two white bands of stomata on the reverse.
