Beech

The Common Beech (Fagus sylvatica), also known as the European Beech, is a deciduous tree belonging to the beech family Fagaceae. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North America. The natural range extends from southern Sweden to northern Sicily, West of France, Southern England, Northern Portugal, Central Spain, and east to Northwest Turkey, where it intergrades with the oriental beech (Fagus orientalis), which replaces it further east.

About Pleyben forest

In Brittany, between the Monts d’Arrée and the Black Mountains (Montagnes Noires), lies the Pleyben forest. From the forest, you can catch a glimpse of the Mont Saint-Michel, the highest point in Brittany (385 m).

The forest is made up of more than ten different species, including Vancouver fir, sycamore maple, wild cherry, Sitka spruce, chestnut, Douglas fir and red oak. There is also a wealth of biodiversity, with a river and two ponds below the plot.
