It is based on the natural growth rate of a tree, which is estimated at around 2% per year. This expected gain is referred to as “gross" because it is calculated on the basis of the price of the tree excluding VAT.

### Douglas fir
A symbol of height, ambition, and surpassing limits, the Douglas Fir is the tree of those who think big and dare to aim higher. It is **an inspiring gift to mark a graduation, a new role, or any project that is taking off fast**.
Its dense branches offer prime shelter for many nesting bird species, and its leaf litter enriches the forest floor with organic matter, feeding a rich and varied soil fauna. In mixed forests, it plays an essential structural role for the entire ecosystem.
The Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is a conifer native to the Pacific coast of North America, where it can exceed 100 metres in its natural habitat. Introduced to Europe in the 19th century, it is today one of the most widely cultivated species in forestry for the quality and durability of its timber.

### About Gioux forest
### About Gioux forest
The Gioux forest covers 30 hectares of land, not far from the small village of the same name, in the Creuse department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in the south west of France.
This forest is home to [Douglas fir](/en/species/2), [sitka](/en/species/1) and [larch](/en/species/19) trees which take root at an altitude of about 791 metres. Part of the forest was a clear-cut area before EcoTree took over the land. Our forestry management model will include using irregular high forestry - meaning we plant different species with different ages to make the forest resistant.
