Corsican pine (Pinus nigra laricio var. corsicana) from the Pinaceae family is a subspecies of black pine; this forest species adapts to all kinds of climates in France on siliceous or calcareous soils. It is one of the largest conifers in Europe and its wood is moderately hard and has a straight grain. Flowering takes place in May with male and female buds on the same tree.

- Height: 30 to 50 meters
- Foliage: flexible, non-prickly needles sparsely inserted in pairs
- Trunk: straight, slender carriage with branches evenly spaced per level
- Bark: composed of large irregular patches
- Color: the trunk is silvery grey in old trees and ashen green needles

About Gioux 2 forest

Located near our Gioux Forest, the Gioux 2 Forest shares the same climatic and soil conditions. Nestled at over 700 metres above sea level, it takes root on the Millevaches Plateau in Limousin. Its predominantly north-facing slopes and steep terrain make it ideal for the growth of species such as Douglas fir.

This forest endured the ravages of the 1999 storm and was not replanted afterwards. Consequently, part of the area remains an uncultivated clear-cut that has developed into scrubland over the past 25 years. Low-quality broadleaf species such as beeches and sessile oaks have mostly taken hold within this scrubland. We plan to enrich these areas selectively. One hillside remains wooded with chestnut trees, which we will leave untouched.

The forest also features a wetland zone spanning approximately half a hectare to one hectare, which includes an old fishery. We will carefully preserve this wetland area and avoid planting on it. We aim to maintain natural regeneration capable of producing high-quality timber and withstanding future climate changes while enhancing it through targeted planting.
