Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) also known as California Redwoods, Coast Redwood, or Coastal redwood, have populated the Earth for an impressive 200 million years, and can reach over 100m in height. Incidentally, the tallest tree in the world is a sequoia: it measures 115 meters and is located in Northern California. This species likes moist soils and a sufficient supply of light. Its thick bark protects it from fire, and its timber is used in carpentry.
