Ploemel forest

Near the town of Auray in Brittany in France, the Ploemel forest extends over about ten hectares. Since we took over management of the forest, 9,000 tree seedlings have been planted. The planting was carried out over a surface area of 6 hectares and consists mainly of maritime pine and Monterey pine, two species that are particularly well adapted to the sandy loam soil of this region of southern Brittany.
A honey hedge borders the plot to the east. There is also a wetland of around 2 hectares, embankments and old trees that we are preserving along a 2.6-hectares surface area, as well as a honey hedge.

This area was acquired in December 2021.A planting project was initiated as soon as it came under our management. In 2022, a soil survey was conducted to determine the most suitable tree species for planting on this site. This is how maritime pine and Monterey pine were chosen, and after tilling the soil, they were planted on 6 hectares.
Over the next few years, additional work is planned to continue planting on this plot. In particular, soil preparation will need to be carried out, and the saplings will be protected from wildlife through the application of Trico, a natural repellent.
The plot will also be PEFC certified.

Actions are being taken to preserve the nearly 2-hectare wetland present on the site. We also encourage the presence of old trees, dead trees (which still contribute to biodiversity) and den trees by creating a senescence plot.
Similarly, existing embankments on the site and a diversity of tree species along the woodland edge are preserved and reinforced where necessary. We have planted a 378 metre honey hedge to encourage the presence of pollinating insects and birds.
