Over the last century, hedgerows have been destroyed to make way for large agricultural fields. And yet they are crucial to a habitat’s biodiversity, as they store carbon, provide shelter and help maintain consistent ecosystems where bees and other pollinators thrive. We want your help to start a new project to build melliferous or honey-producing hedges that provide food for bees, other pollinators and animal species too, including birds and local wildlife.
Prepare the soil
We create a shallow ploughed area to create space where the new hedge will go.
Plant the hedge
We plant more than 280 plants, trees and shrubs, including buckthorn, hazel, rowan, field maple, arbutus and cherry.
Install mulch and collars
We apply mulch to protect, retain moisture and nourish the soil by creating humus. Our team also attach collars to competing vegetation, which keep it under control and allows the new hedge to thrive.
